The following is a breakout of the “Track Maintainer” course for engineering employees of railroads or contractors who perform track works.
OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course trainees will:
- Identify track components (rails, ties, fasteners, frogs, switch points,etc.)work safely and follow the procedures to prevent you from being struck by a train or other on-track equipment.
- Use Standard Practice Circulars (SPCs) to locate and apply information during maintenance operations and inspections.follow the operating rules applicable to personal safety
- Identify defects, problems and conditions that may be encountered during inspection of track, turnout and Right of Way
- Inspect and maintain tools and small machines Use a bench grinder to dress and sharpen hand tools
DURATION: The course is 40 hrs. duration.
CLASS SIZE: 1 - 12 trainees
The course consists of the following elements:
- Track Inspection Guidelines
- Track Maintenance
- Continuous Welder Rail (CWR)
- Movement Over Rail Break
Upon successful completion of an examination, trainees will be given a card certifying them in accordance with Transport Canada.
