Locomotive Operator

The following is a breakout of the “Industrial Locomotive Operator” course for locomotive operators working in an industrial environment.

PREREQUISITES: Trainee must have completed “Industrial Rail Safety”

OBJECTIVES: This program provides trainees with the skills and knowledge required to become a Track Maintenance Foreman.

Upon successful completion of this course trainees will have the skills and knowledge to safely and efficiently perform the duties of locomotive operator in an industrial environment. They will demonstrate the following:

  • Locomotive start up and shut down procedures
  • Daily safety inspections
  • Daily locomotive brake tests
  • Locomotive operation coupling and uncoupling rail cars
  • Proper use of independent and automatic brakes valves
  • Train handling techniques
  • Locomotive troubleshooting

DURATION: The course is of a 5 day duration, 2 days classroom –3 days on locomotive

CLASS SIZE: 1 – 4 trainees

EQUIPMENT: We will require the following equipment for the field portion:

  • Locomotive
  • Rail cars
